Match Report - Under 13s vs Meopham
The Battle on the Green
Written by Stephen Moriarty
On Friday evening at a far from municipal looking ground, HBBH skipper Patrick Moriarty won the toss and elected to field against the home team of Meopham.
With Charlie Hutton opening the bowling from one end, and Will Herridge from the other, the juxtaposition of swing direction gave the team a strong start, conceding only 5 runs in the first 2 overs. The first breakthrough came when Charlie bowled Meopham's number 2 batter out for a duck in the third over.
After a good spell from both bowlers, Daisy Bunker and Tom Connop were brought on to bowl. Daisy finished with standout, effervescent figures of 4-13 from 4 overs, and Tom kept the score tight, with only 7 runs going from his 2 overs. Patrick then bowled an economic 3 overs, and Devish, Sahil, Archie and Konrad bowled a good over each. Archie took the wicket of Meopham's opening and top scoring bat, with a catch behind the stumps by Ethan. Meopham finished their innings on 86-7 off the full 20 overs.
HBBH's opening batters, Patrick at 1 and Will H at 2, took to the crease, well prepared for their innings. Following another good start, Will retired on 26 off 27 balls, with a lovely sweep for 4 over square leg. Next to the middle was Charlie, who faced 6 balls, scoring 5 runs, before getting out LBW. A quick collapse followed, with 3 wickets in the next 5 balls, all ducks. However, this failed to discombobulate Patrick and Ethan, who was next in, with ten needed to win. They calmly guided the innings to a close, Ethan beautifully pulling a ball for 4, and Patrick's 4 off the last ball also bringing up his retirement, off 15.5 overs.
A great all-round performance from the away side led to a convincing, well-deserved win, which was enjoyed by all.
